The beautiful church of Sainte-Clotilde, in the heart of Paris, was filled to capacity on the evening of Saturday, 6 February, 2010.
The congregation, which included many connoisseurs of the Trompe, had come to hear the young and brilliant forces of the Rallye-Trompes de Paris, strengthened on this occasion by Hubert Heinrich, Christian Conte and Mathieu Guillot from the Rallye-Trompe des Vosges.
The distinguished company had come together in support of a good cause: the thousand-year-old Cistercian Order and the founding of a new monastic house in Norway.
Dom Olivier Quenardel, the father superior of the Order, stated that “the sowing of a new seed in Norwegian soil” was the occasion for the Order (which has 2,500 houses scattered around the world) to “connect with its own history”, and called upon the congregation to make a contribution to the success of this noble cause.
The Rallye-Trompes de Paris, who now include two basses with the addition to its ranks of Nicolas Poidevin, alternated with the two soloists from the Rallye-Trompes des Vosges accompanied on the organ by Olivier Penin.
The concert, which began with Introits from the Masses of St Hubert, continued with the “Dit de Citeaux”, a virtuoso-piece specially written for the occasion by Hubert Heinrich, the “Marche Royale” and the “Souvenir de Londres”, allowing the audience to enjoy all the possibilities of the Trompe. It ended with some variations on the theme of Saint Hubert, in which the baritone Philippe Broca performed the voice part.
Held in the presence of the Norwegian Ambassador and the FITF President, Antoine de La Rochefoucauld, the evening ended on a convivial note with un verre de l’amitié provided by the players.
For all its magnificence, the event was marked by great simplicity. It gave the Rallye-Trompes de Paris the opportunity to become part of the great tradition of the Parisian Trompe.
